Digital Project Update

I decided to use Weebly to create my website. My website will contain the main homepage and from there, any subpage can be accessed. The homepage will contain the overall topic which is, "How did the Native Americans impact America?" The three subpages will contain different examples that answers the topic question. The subpages will talk about Native American medicine, language, and government. Each subpage will follow the same layout but I will have different pictures and text so it should be fairly simple to create the website. By creating a storyboard, the process of creating the digital presentation should be easy. Even if I want to change the layout or if I want to add more content, I can quickly adapt my storyboard. I hope to create a website that is simple and not overwhelming. My website should be able to inform people on the numerous contributions of the Native Americans and it should give the Natives their well-deserved attention.

Native Roots: How the Indians Enriched America

Native Roots by Jack Weatherford is a 288 page book about the natives of America. I chose this book because it seemed interesting and it had concrete information that applies to the topic of my research. The author has 4 other published books about varying topics before this book. Jack Weatherford graduated from University of South Carolina and he completed his Ph.D in anthropology at the University of California, San Diego. He earned a post-doctoral degree from Duke University and became a professor of anthropology at Macalester College in Minnesota.

Native Roots exemplifies the history of the Natives -- highlighting specific farming techniques and the uprisings of a trade economy. Weatherford discusses how the Natives created their own society and how they assimilated into the White's culture.

Introduction

My research will highlight the change of Native American culture over time. From when the Natives first started to create societies to their near extinction. This blog will look into the everyday lives and festivals of the Natives and I will also highlight important people such as Squanto, Sequoyah, and Pocahontas. The main question that I want to answer is, "How does the history of Native American culture reflect the events they experienced?" My research will also look at the influences of Native American culture on American culture today.
